Last week, Tiger Woods pulled off the comeback for the ages winning his first Major in 10 years coming from behind to do it too! I only had Tiger in 15% of my lineups on DraftKings so I didn’t do well over there. I had him in some of my lineups on Drafters but not enough to turn a profit. I had him in a LOT of lineups on Draft though, so I was not only able to turn a profit over there, but having him helped me advance to the finals in a 5 person draft tournament and the Semi-finals in a 4 person draft tournament. Will easily double what I won this weekend bare minimum.

This week, we move on to the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. We have a Par 71 course just under 7,100 feet. Distance will not help you in this event at all. This event is all about accuracy. There are a lot of hazards on this course as well, so you really want someone who can limit the bogeys, otherwise their score can quickly get away from them on this course. Top 70 and ties advance after the second round. The MDF rule is in effect if 78 or more golfers make the cut.

Here are the key factors I am looking at this week in order of priority:

  • Vegas odds to win
  • Strokes Gained: Approach
  • Bogey Avoidance
  • Par 4 Scoring
  • Strokes Gained: Around The Green
  • Strokes Gained: Putting
  • Recent Form
  • Course History

Here are the tools that I use this week:

On Draft and Drafters, your primary concern is to draft the best golfers in the field regardless of position. A great way to assess that is to start with Vegas Odds to Win. Then look at the key statistics that are important to you and move golfers up or down as you see fit. Here are my top 10 plays on Draft and Drafters:

  1. Dustin Johnson
  2. Bryson DeChambeau
  3. Francisco Molinari
  4. Xander Schauffele
  5. Tommy Fleetwood
  6. Patrick Cantlay
  7. Matt Kuchar
  8. Webb Simpson
  9. Kevin Kisner
  10. Jordan Spieth

DraftKings & FanDuel Plays

On DraftKings and FanDuel salary is important. A player can be a good player but a bad play on DraftKings or FanDuel because of their price. To cash you need to build a lineup that you feel confident that you can get all 6 players through the cut. Look at the key factors that I have listed above and then look at their cut percentages. You want golfers that rarely miss the cut if you are building a lineup to cash. If you are building a lineup to win, you need the winner and you need to get as many golfers in the top 10 as possible. Therefore when building those types of lineups, look for golfers that have high upside. I’m going to give you a list of both types of golfers below. Use this as a starting point for your lineup and then use the spreadsheet and the categories that I highlighted above to fill out the rest of your spots.

Golfers That Should Make The Cut

  • Dustin Johnson – $11,600 DK $12,400 FD 11/11 cuts made
  • Tommy Fleetwood – $9,200 DK $11,300 FD 10/10 cuts made
  • Byeong-Hun An – $8,200 DK $9,800 FD 10/11 cuts made
  • Lucas Glover – $7,800 DK $9,600 FD 10/12 cuts made
  • Rafael Cabrera-Bello – $7,600 DK $9,800 FD 11/13 cuts made
  • Emiliano Grillo – $7,400 DK $9,400 FD 11/12 cuts made

Golfers That Have High Upside

  • Xander Schauffele – $10,900 DK $11,600 FD
  • Jim Furyk – $9,400 DK $10,300 FD
  • Ian Poulter – $8,600 DK $10,200 FD
  • Russell Knox – $7,700 DK $9,500 FD
  • Keith Mitchell – $7,300 DK $9,200 FD
  • Luke Donald – $7,200 DK $9,000 FD

When building my lineups one of the things that Kevin Correia taught me is “Who do you have in your lineup that’s going to win?” So in other words, make sure at least one golfer in your lineup is a golfer that you believe can win this event. It’s almost impossible to win a GPP without having the winning golfer. The only time that happens is when some unknown player that’s like 1% owned wins. So make sure you have a “winner” in your lineups.

Good luck!
